Wood and wood products 

In the first 5 months of 2022, wood product exports reached 5.2 billion USD, a slight increase compared to the same period in 2021. Meanwhile, the export of wood materials reached 1.95 billion USD in the first 5 months of the year.

Currently, the United States and Europe account for 80% of Vietnam's export market share and there is still great room for development. Large enterprises in Vietnam still focus on the markets of wooden furniture exported to the European market (EU). Although the war between Russia and Ukraine is increasing, along with the Covid-19 pandemic, the Vietnamese wood industry still faces many difficulties in terms of export output.

In order to further promote the export of wood and wood products to the three main markets of the United States, Japan and China in particular and the markets in general, Vietnamese enterprises need to invest in public investment. technology, limiting the export of wood chips, logs and raw materials, but instead strongly focused on processing fine products to meet market demand. At the same time, enterprises must regularly check product quality to ensure quality, especially during long-term transportation by sea, increase processing content instead of exporting raw goods; develop linkage models, chain production...

Shrimp 

Shrimp exports in 6 months reached 2.3 billion USD, up 33% over the same period and accounting for 40% of total seafood export value. In Vietnam, the price of raw shrimp has also increased, which has pushed up export prices. On the other hand, increased freight costs have contributed to a "virtual" increase of about 10% of export value. 

For the Japanese market, a bright picture of shrimp exports is clearly shown in the market share in 2021 and 6 months of 2022. Coffee

Vietnamese coffee has been  exported to more than 80 countries and territories, accounting for 14.2% of the global green coffee export market share, but mainly raw.

Coffee is one of six export commodities of over 3 billion USD/year, alongside high-value products such as wood and wood products, seafood, cashew nuts, rice, vegetables, rubber, etc. agricultural products with export value belong to the "top" of the agricultural and rural development sector. In 2021, despite the complicated development of the COVID-19 epidemic, Vietnam's coffee exports still brought in over 3 billion USD, contributing to the overall growth of Vietnam's commodity exports. 

Rice 

According to the Vietnam Food Association, the price of Vietnam's 5% broken rice is currently trading at $413/ton, the highest among the world's major rice exporters. In order to keep the good selling price, many factories have boldly invested in modern cold storage. As a result, rice is safely stored and actively sources of export goods.

Vietnamese rice has continuously expanded to new high-end markets. Japan officially imported the first 100 tons of ST25 rice from Vietnam for sale at supermarkets and shops. Followed by a series of difficult markets such as Korea, the US and Europe.

Cashew

After the US, Europe (EU) is currently the second largest cashew nut export market of Vietnam, accounting for 23% of the total volume and 22% of the total export value of the industry. Vietnam's cashew exports now have a market share in 23 EU member markets.

In the EU market, besides Germany and the Netherlands, cashew nut exports to other markets such as France, Spain, Poland, Finland... also achieved impressive growth, in which, the market alone In the Finnish market, only 11 months of 2021 has reached over 63,000 tons, worth more than 345 million USD, up 12.3% in volume.

With the above results, Vietnam's cashew nut exports are expected to reach $900 million in 2022.

 

Rubber 

The area of ​​rubber trees in Vietnam currently has 938.8 thousand hectares, accounting for 7.2% of the total global rubber area. Vietnam's rubber latex harvest will reach 1.26 million tons in 2021, accounting for 8.7% of global rubber production. The average yield of Vietnamese rubber is 1,682 kg/ha, ranking first in Asia.

Over the past decade, the area of ​​rubber plantations has continuously decreased, with an average annual decrease of 10,000 - 20,000 ha, due to companies converting rubber trees to other trees, or industrial development. As a result, the output does not meet the demand, so in recent years, Vietnam has imported natural rubber from Laos and Cambodia to serve the processing of rubber products. This import supply is mixed with the domestic supply for export.

Pangasius 

The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), said that in the first half of 2022, the seafood industry recorded many export record milestones: sales record, growth record compared to the first half of other countries. five. The whole seafood industry earned $5.7 billion, up nearly 40% over the same period in 2021.

In particular, the record is pangasius with sales of 1.4 billion USD, an increase of 82.4%. Seafood products, despite difficulties in raw materials, still maintained a growth rate of 12-55% over the same period, bringing in over 2 billion USD.

Vegetables

A special point is that in the first 2 months of 2022, vegetable and fruit exports to the US increased by nearly 70%; Korea increased by nearly 32%; Japan increased 12%; Australia increased by 45.7%, the Netherlands increased by 51.5%… This is expected to create a shift in export markets, helping Vietnam's fruit and vegetable products grow in the coming time.

Taking a closer look at export items, Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen said that in 2021, dragon fruit exports to China alone will reach $1.031 billion out of the total export value of vegetables and fruits to this market. 9 billion USD.

Thus, dragon fruit is a key product, accounting for a very large proportion of the total value of fruit and vegetable exports to the Chinese market.

The Import-Export Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade also assessed that there is a clear shift in fruit and vegetable exports to other continents. While the share of fruit and vegetable exports to Europe and America increased, the share of exports to Asia decreased.

Peppers

In the first two months of the year, Vietnam's pepper exports saw mixed growth as output decreased by 11.2% but increased by 43.8% in value over the same period last year. The reason is, the export price of Vietnamese pepper increased by 61.9% over the same period last year, reaching $4,681/ton.

Currently, Vietnam has started to enter the main pepper harvest. In some places in Dak Nong province, the harvest is almost finished, so the supply is quite abundant, but the selling price has increased sharply compared to the end of January 2022, despite the limited purchase of dealers.

Cassava 

Vietnam is the world's third largest exporter of cassava and cassava products in terms of output, after Thailand and Cambodia, and second in export turnover after Thailand. According to the General Department of Customs, in 2021, cassava exports will reach nearly 2.9 million tons, worth nearly $1.2 billion, up 2.4% in volume and 16.5% in value compared to 2020. Cassava and cassava products is one of the agricultural products that still maintained the growth rate in both output and export turnover in the past year.

According to the signed EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), cassava starch is the second product granted tariff-free quota after rice at 30,000 tons/year (export tax). cassava starch outside the quota is 166 EUR/ton; fresh cassava roots, sliced ​​frozen cassava or not outside the quota for tax calculation is 9.5 EUR/kg).
